Why Jesus?
The concept of salvation is central to the Christian faith. The basic definition of salvation is to be rescued from the consequences of our wrongdoing.
After God formed Adam’s body from the dust of the ground, He breathed into him His life source. This brought Adam’s spirit and soul (mind, will, emotions) into existence. Man in essence came out of the inside of God. God’s life force flowed through Adam’s entire being. Sadly, when Adam sinned by yielding to the devil and disobeying God, he died spiritually. That condition of spiritual death eventually introduced physical death, sickness and poverty as well.
The term ‘spiritual death’ is not a state of non-existence. It is a condition of being separated and alienated from God. Spiritual life is the nature of God. Spiritual death is the nature of Satan. There is no middle ground. You are either with one, or the other. When Adam died spiritually, he became separated from eternal life.
Life eternal is different from eternal life. Everyone, saint or sinner, has life eternal. Everyone will live forever. Either in heaven with Jesus, or in hell with Satan. Eternal life does include life eternal, but it is so much more. Eternal life is a quality of life. Eternal life is the God kind of life.
The law of Genesis states that everything has life within itself, and everything produces after its own kind. Whether we like it or not, spiritual death has been passed down to all of mankind. After the fall of Adam, although man was not in union with God, he could still control how sinful he became. He could not overcome sin, but he could control it. He still had a free will. However, over a period of time, influenced by Satan, man became increasingly controlled by darkness.
Mankind without the nature of God cannot overcome sin. That’s why Jesus told Nicodemus that you must be born again, or you must be born from above. The price and consequence of man’s sin was paid for by Jesus on the cross at Calvary. When we repent of our sins and accept the sacrifice of Jesus on our behalf, receiving Him as our Saviour, we become born again of the spirit. Man originally went from life to death, from the outside in. Now the process starts to reverse itself and goes from death to life, from the inside out. It all begins by praying a simple, genuine, heartfelt prayer.
Dear God, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I’ve sinned. I repent of my wrongdoing and ask you to forgive me right now and cleanse me of all unrighteousness. The Bible says, ‘.. him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.’ (John 6:37). So, I know that You won’t cast me out, but You will take me in. Your Word says, ‘Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ (Romans 10:13). I am calling on Your name, so I know that You save me right now. I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe that He died for my sins, and was raised from the dead for my justification, and I confess and receive Him now as my Saviour and my Lord (Romans 10:9-10). I believe with my heart that I have now become the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Cor. 5:21) and I am saved!
